170 healthy hedgehogs released back into the wild this autumn

While the rescue is exceptionally busy at the moment we have had some wonderful success cases and releases to keep the team going. So far this autumn we have released 170 hedgehogs back into the wild!

Here are a few of the highlights:

Pigwidgen

Reason for admission: Pneumonia

Release date: 30/9/24

With some extra assistance from Luxstowe vets, Pigwidgen managed to overcome severe pneumonia and a number of ailments, doubling in weight over the course of 3 weeks. The team will really miss Pigwidgen who was a big character - and very ‘helpful’ when his hutch was being cleaned out!

Frisbee

Reason for admission: Frisbee was attacked by a dog and suffered multiple puncture wounds. Luckily the person who found her acted very swiftly, and immediate treatment at our local vets meant that she had a relatively short recovery time of 3 weeks.

Release date: 7.11.24

Buttons

Reason for admission: Buttons came in as a hoglet just over 2 weeks old with a respiratory infection.

Release date: 30/08/24

Maude

Reason for admission: Suspected RTA, came through a vets to us. No treatment just a period of assessment and then rerelease

Release date: 3/9/24

Snickerdoodle

Reason for admission: Snickerdoodle came in as a hoglet found out during the day, with gastrointestinal infection and lungworm.

Release date: 5/9/24.

Freeda

Reason for admission: An older hoglet, Freeda was found outside in day emaciated.

Release date: 4/9/24.

Help us to help our hogs!

This year we have helped over 1300 hedgehogs at our tiny rescue but, with the proper facilities, we could help so many more.

We are fundraising to build a new purpose-built Hogspital, which will feature purpose-built facilities including a triage room, intensive care unit, isolation facility, and a staff room for our team and volunteers to take their breaks (currently our back garden!). We are currently 65% of the way to meeting our goal. Can you help us?
