Hogspital project update: March 2025
The Hogspital foundations are in! What's next?
Day by day we might have our hands full with prickly patients, but behind the scenes we've also been pushing forwards with our Hogspital project - a new purpose-built facility to care for Cornwall's hedgehogs.
So far we have:
✅ Secured planning permission
✅ Cleared the site
✅ Agreed and signed a 25-year lease, effective from January 2025
✅ Brought water and electricity supplies onto site
✅ Installed foundations for both buildings
The next phase of the project will be the completion of 'Building A' - a spacious building which will form the main base for our operations. This building will include a general admissions ward; an intensive care ward; outdoor, undercover pre-release hutches and maternity hutches; a triage and veterinary room; a staff and meeting room; a reception area; and a disabled access WC. Environmental features will include native hedgerows, a wildflower meadow, log pile and bat boxes. The builders (Warvena Construction) are due on site from April 2025 to progress with the next stage of the works.
We are so grateful for everyone's support so far. Funding is already in place for fencing, drainage connections and the erection of Building A, and we are continuing to raise funds for the fit-out, car parking and landscaping works.
